To be eligible for honors:
Candidates for honors must maintain an average of B+ (GPA = 3.3) in courses pertinent to the major and have taken at least one course in which they completed a research paper.
It is up to the student to find a thesis advisor! Students must approach a potential advisor from the American Studies Program faculty before the end of their junior year and discuss their plans for a project with that person.
To research and write their thesis, senior honors candidates enroll in AMST 4993 in the fall of their senior year and continue in AMST 4994 in the spring.
Three bound copies of the thesis are due in the American Studies office in mid-April. The deadline will be announced. The thesis may not exceed 60 pages of text without the approval of the thesis advisor.
