AMST Undergraduate Minor Declaration Form
Students must register their intent to minor in American Studies by submitting this online form no later than their penultimate semester.
To complete the minor, students must take a minimum of 5* American Studies courses (15 credits) with four* courses at 2000 level or above and fulfilling the following distribution requirements:
- AMST 1101 - Introduction to American Studies
- One (1) pre-1900 course.*
- One (1) American diversity course.
- One (1) 4000-level American Studies seminar.
- One (1) elective.
Notes on course credits
- Must receive a grade of C or higher in all courses.
- No more than two (2) courses may be taken in any one discipline or field.
- One course may be taken S/U, but AMST 1101 must be taken for a grade.
- “Diversity” courses address social justice or inequality, with an emphasis on race, class, gender, and/or sexuality.
- Two ½ pre-1900 courses at the 2000 level or above may be taken to fulfill the pre-1900 requirement, which means six courses would be needed for the minor.*
You must confirm the satisfactory completion of all minor requirements by the mid-point of your final semester with the AMST undergraduate coordinator.
